What Happens When You Just Say “Yes”
Recently I was asked to speak in public. Well, what’s the big deal there? I hear you say. Isn’t that what you do? And of course, you are right – it is. BUT. This was a real stage, with real people! And like a lot of people, I haven’t done that for a while.
Looking back with my speaker coach’s eye on my performance – there were about 37 places for improvement. And that’s OK because as I always teach my clients, you don’t have to be perfect, just passionate.
I put the video up on YouTube and it’s had over 1500 views already in less than a week. And I have already appeared in front of another 100 people, after being invited to speak to this group of people – who were watching the video!
The best way to show people you can help them – is to help them – as my friend Carole always says.
Now, why do I love speaking? For many reasons, but probably the most compelling for me is that I want to help people find their WHY – because when they don’t, they end up living someone else’s.
You need a compelling reason to do things that are (initially) out of your comfort zone, as public speaking was for me less than 10 years ago.
So whatever your WHY is – you need to get yourself out there, speaking on stage, speaking to camera, speaking on lives. And if getting your own WHY out there is not enough, what this week has emphasised is that speaking is one of the best positioning tools there is.
Now we are going to be speaking about positioning for the next couple of weeks and why it is crucial for any entrepreneur to position themselves, so look out for next weeks blog.
